Create a patchwork Christmas stocking using the classic Irish Chain quilt design. With its small squares and traditional pattern, this stocking has a lovely nostalgic feel, perfect for a handmade Christmas.
This sewing pattern uses a quick strip-piecing method to create the Irish Chain blocks, saving time sewing individual squares. The blocks are joined to make a larger patchwork panel, which is then quilted and cut into the stocking shape.
I've used burgundy and cream for a traditional Christmas look, but you can choose any two contrasting fabrics to suit your decorations. Why not make a second stocking in the opposite colourway for a coordinating pair?
The finished stocking is fully lined, with quilted front and back panels and a fabric hanging loop.

I recommend using 100% cotton quilting fabric for this project. Choose two contrasting colours or prints to help the chain design stand out. Plain fabrics, checks and small-scale prints all work beautifully.
You will also need wadding, lining fabric and coordinating thread.
Skill Level: Confident beginner. Some experience with basic patchwork and using a sewing machine is helpful.
Please Note
This listing is for a digital PDF sewing pattern, not a finished stocking or physical paper pattern.
The template is designed to print on four A4 pages at 100% (actual size). Simply cut out the pieces, match the alignment markings and tape together to create your stocking template.
A lovely project for adding some traditional patchwork to your Christmas decorations, and a stocking you can bring out year after year.
